What is CL 700?

CL 700 is a 7% sodium hypochlorite solution of our own production, used for water disinfection and control of biological growth — the bacteria, algae and biofilms that develop inside tanks, pipelines and pretreatment units.

In desalination plants, biological growth is one of the main causes of membrane fouling. Chlorination in the pretreatment stage stops this growth before it reaches the membrane, and protects sand and media filters from biological contamination.

It is also used to disinfect drinking water, ground and elevated storage tanks and distribution networks, and to sanitize equipment and pipelines before commissioning.

Applications

Important Warning: Chlorine and Reverse Osmosis Membranes

Polyamide (TFC) membranes do not tolerate chlorine — exposure to it irreversibly damages their active layer. Chlorine must therefore be completely removed before the water enters the membranes, either with an activated carbon filter or by dosing sodium bisulfite.

The rule: chlorinate in the pretreatment stage, then dechlorinate immediately before the membranes, and measure residual chlorine regularly to confirm.

Dosage & Storage

Dosage is determined by the organic and biological load of the water and the target residual chlorine. The concentration of hypochlorite solution naturally decreases over time and under the effect of heat and light, so it should be stored in a shaded, cool, well-ventilated place away from acids and oxidizing agents, and used within a relatively short period from its production date to maintain its effectiveness.

When handling: wear gloves, safety goggles and a face shield. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Never mix with acids.

Packaging & Supply

CL 700 is supplied in 20 kg drums and is available in quantities for regular supply to treatment plants and municipalities within Libya.
