What is HCL 300?

HCL 300 is 33% hydrochloric acid, the core acidic chemical in the operation of water treatment plants. It has three main uses within the plant.

pH adjustment: lowering the pH of the feed water reduces the tendency of calcium carbonate to deposit on the membrane and boosts the effectiveness of the antiscalant. It is one of the simplest and most economical measures for protecting membranes.

Acid cleaning (CIP): dissolving mineral scale and iron oxides accumulated on the membrane surface as part of a planned cleaning cycle. Resin regeneration: reactivating cation-exchange resins in softening and deionization units.

Applications

Handling Safety — Read Before Use

HCL 300 is a highly corrosive substance. Its vapors irritate the respiratory system, and contact causes burns to the skin and eyes. Handling it requires: acid-resistant gloves, safety goggles and a face shield, a protective apron, and good ventilation or a suitable respirator.

Dilution rule: always add acid to water — never add water to acid. Doing the reverse causes a violent exothermic reaction and acid splashing. And never mix it with sodium hypochlorite or any chlorine-containing product, because the mixture releases toxic chlorine gas.

Storage & Supply

Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, in tightly closed acid-resistant containers, away from metals, alkalis and chlorine compounds, with a containment bund under the containers. HCL 300 is supplied in 20 kg containers, in quantities to order for plants and factories within Libya.
